Introduction

Divers: Constantly dying? Always missing shots and unable to save your friend as he gets ripped apart in the darkness? Place a mine thinking it's a good idea only to later see it kill three of your teammates? I'm here to give you some tips on extending your life-span as a Diver and landing more Shark kills in the process. When I initially wrote this guide, I was ranked in the Top 10 in the world as a Diver, so what I'm going to share with you will definitely improve your gaming experience. But wait! I'm not going to leave the Sharks out of it! I have love for them, too. I'll offer insight on also playing as a Shark so you can land more kills on the Divers and wreak havoc in more games.

Basic Diving

Alot of this game is based on personal preference; what you like and what you don't like. To find out what you like, you're going to have to branch out from your comfort zone. Don't be afraid to experiment. Find out what playstyle interests you. Now, with that being said, let's get to work:First things first, you gotta pick your Diver! This doesn't matter at all and is purely cosmetic, so pick whoever you like the most!Next, buy your gear. Don't worry, every time you die, you see this screen again, so don't fret if you have buyer's remorse as soon as you spawn. The green and yellow squares represent your Primary and Secondary weapons. These are not important in regards to what guns you can hold and where. You can hold two of any weapon; the slots don't matter. The white square represents your Consumable. Your Consumable can be a number of things, including Flares, Sonar Buoy's and Mines.. You can only use a Consumable once before you have to buy another one, so use them wisely. Also, if you die before you use your Consumable, you'll still have it the next time you respawn. Thank goodness for that!Always, always, ALWAYS pay attention to the team tickets at the top of the screen! I honestly can't stress this enough. It'll show when a Shark is either spawned in or dead. If both Sharks are dead and haven't spawned in yet, go try and collect as much treasure as you can! This assures that you have some free time to collect treasure without having to worry if you're going to get eaten.Still not sure what I'm talking about? See those 2 big red circles at the top of the screen? Those are the Team Tickets. The left circle is the Diver Team Tickets and the right circle is the Shark Team Tickets. Notice how some are greyed out and some are filled in. In this situation, this means 1 Diver and 1 Shark are currently dead and haven't spawned in yet.Let's take this moment to talk a little bit more about your User Interface.Referencing the above image, underneath the Diver Team Tickets, there is a progress bar that shows how far your buddy S.T.E.V.E. has gone since the beginning of the level. There will always be four arrow markers on this progress bar. This tells you that there are four treasure chests in all that S.T.E.V.E. has to open before you can return to the boat. Here's an important piece of information: each time S.T.E.V.E. visits a chest, it takes a certain amount of time before he can get it open. When he does this, a circle will appear around S.T.E.V.E. on the progress bar at the top of the screen (or, if you die, you can see S.T.E.V.E.'s progress at the respawn screen). This is a good way to keep an eye on the current progress of a chest without having to always watch S.T.E.V.E..On the right side, underneath the Shark Team Tickets, you'll see a Health Bar for S.T.E.V.E.. Always keep a weary eye on this and repair S.T.E.V.E. as needed. If S.T.E.V.E. loses all his health, the only way to win at that point is to kill off the rest of the Sharks. Yeah, easier said than done sometimes. In the bottom left of the screen where the green circle is, that's how much money you currently have. Next to that, the yellow circle, is how much treasure you're currently holding. In the bottom right of the screen, that's your ammo pool. The left number tells you how much ammo is in your current clip and the right number tells you how much ammo you have altogether. Easy.Always be aware of your surroundings! Make a mental note of where all the entrances and exits are to a room you're in and watch them.Don't stand/hover in doorways or entrances. This is probably the most common mistake I see Divers make. Instead of hovering in a doorway and being easy Shark bait, pick a corner and dig in. This makes it more difficult for Sharks to grab you and, if they do, it makes it easier for your teammates to clear you.Flares are your friend. Most people like to use Sonar Buoy's because they are permanent unless a Shark destroys it. I say flares are your friend. Yes, they're only temporary but: they're cheaper, Sharks can't destroy them and they do better at illuminating Sharks. Flares should be thrown just outside of doors, entrances and windows. They won't do you any good thrown into a corner of a room. Also, if you want more bang for your buck, try throwing flares straight up or at an angle. This allows them to slowly sink, illuminating everything as it does so.Mines can make you or explode you. I always see players buy a million mines, lay them all over the map and then, more often than not, get more Diver kills than Shark kills. Be aware of where you're planting your mines. A few mines placed in unorthodox places can absolutely obliterate a Shark team. Remember: less is more.Don't neglect the speed. By default, the Shift key allows you a brief boost of speed as you dart forward through the water. Don't neglect this. If timed right, you can successfully dodge the jaws of an on-coming Shark. Be wary: you can only do this so many times before your Diver becomes tired and has to recuperate. So don't mash the button, pick your moments. If visual aids are more your thing, in the Options menu, there's a box you can tick that will allow you to see how many sprints you have next to your crosshair. Very handy!Don't wander off/go out into open water. Self-explanatory? I mean, if you were actually diving in the ocean and there was a threat of Sharks, would you honestly do this? Hell no. But I see people do it ALL THE TIME.Cover your teammates. This is another big one. If one of your teammates is grabbed by a Shark, help him! Don't take your time! Get that Shark off him as fast as possible!Aim in front of the Sharks. Not landing shots on the Sharks? This might be why. To some, this may sound like common sense but what most people fail to realize is that you have to aim even more in front of the Sharks. You're underwater. Bullets are slower. Compensate by aiming farther ahead of your targets as you would in other First Person Shooters. Lead them.Pay attention to the heart beats. The faster your heart is beating, the closer a Shark is to you.Believe it or not, you can actually 'hear' the Sharks. Nope, not lying. When a Shark lunges through the water, they make a muffled 'swish!' sound. Keeping your ears open for this really gives you an advantage on which direction to look for an oncoming Shark. And finally, don't be greedy. Play within your means. Don't try to pick up every piece of treasure you can see when your heartbeat is beating a million times a second. Pick up a few and head back to S.T.E.V.E.. Treasure is useless if you can't get it back to S.T.E.V.E.. Be smart.

Shark Basics

Favor being the hunter instead of the hunted? Here are some tips to make you a more feared predator:Pick the Shark that's right for you. Like having an insane amount of health? Pick the Great White. Like being fast and deadly and damn near impossible to hit? The Mako's your choice. Can't decide or like a little bit of both? Hello Tiger. Always find yourself running into walls or objects when you have a Diver in your jaws? The Hammerhead will definitely get your pick. Divers always bunching up and annihilating you before you can get even get a kill? The Thresher won't disappoint. And with the addition of the Bull Shark, you now have even more options. Like being an absolute powerhouse? That Bull Shark is the way to go.Keep an eye on your stamina. This is a Shark's bread and butter. If you run out of stamina, you're a sitting duck (fish?). It's ok to do some lunges as soon as you spawn to cover as much ground as possible but when you're getting close to the Divers, sit back, recuperate and look for a good window of opportunity. And, keep an eye on your health. Make sure to always keep your health up. To heal, swim out to open water and look for seals swimming around. Killing one heals a portion of your health. Or, if that's too much for you, learn some of the health regenerating perks such as 'Blood Feast' or 'Hemogenesis'.Attack together! Keep an eye on your teammate. Work together. When you guys attack at the same time, you're in-turn causing distractions for each other. This confuses the hell out of the Divers and they generally have to pick a target. Doing this allows more kills per death, allowing more skill points to be spent between deaths. Some walls/objects can be destroyed. Walls/objects that glow red can be broken. Doing this really cuts options for the Divers. Taking down walls and making new entrances really gives you an advantage because it opens up more possibilities of grabbing a Diver. As soon as you're able to, learn Powerful Tail. This is the main perk you want to learn as a Shark. Simply, this allows you to lunge and thrash around while you have a Diver in your jaws. This makes it easy to quickly grab a Diver and exit through an opening while getting an easy kill. If you don't want to spend the points on Powerful Tail, a good alternative is to simply hold down Shift while you have a Diver in your jaws. This allows you to swim away faster and making you a little harder to hit in the process.Look for easy kills. Diver off by himself? Diver collecting just a little too much treasure? Diver not paying attention to any of the advice I gave earlier in this guide? Teach him a lesson.

Advanced Diving

So, you've gotten a few Shark kills under your belt, you've dodged a few oncoming Shark attacks and lived the tell the tale. Maybe you've even been the top scoring player on your team a time or two. This section is for players who know what they're doing. I won't go into detail in this section like I have in the other sections. I'm already assuming you know the basics and are doing fairly well for yourself.Note: This section is under maintenance and will constantly be added to.The "Trap & Kill" Technique (AKA "Bag N' Tag"):This technique involves trapping a Shark with the Net Gun and then quickly switching to another weapon and killing it. This allows you to temporarily hold a Shark in one spot while you and your teammates unload on him. I highly recommend doing this against heavier Sharks, like the Great White and the Hammerhead. Also works wonders against the Bull Shark and Tiger.Money Throwing:This includes throwing your held treasure right before you get hit by a Shark. Doing this allows either you (when you respawn) or a teammate to cash in your treasure even though you got eaten.Jousting:This method is very similar to the "Trap & Kill" technique above. However, instead of using a secondary gun to finish off a Shark that's been Netted, you lunge towards them with a Bang Stick instead. Takes a little practice to get it down but I can't say it ain't fun!Self-Saving:Self-Saving can be a godsend. Self-Saving is deploying a P.A.T. in such a way that it can cover you at all times, be that either in a room or out in open water. How this works is, if you happen to get hit by a Shark, P.A.T. will save you. Hence, 'Self-Saving'.Not sure what to use?:Having difficulty coming to a decision on what effect to use on your gun? Let's shed some light on the mysteries of effects:Remember: it comes down to personal preference and what gun you're the most effective with. Take that into consideration.Heavy Shark? Advanced Sharking

I'm going to go more in-depth on Shark strategies here. This will include how to maximise your effectiveness when playing as your favorite Shark. You have to know not only all your strengths when playing as a Shark, but all of your weaknesses as well. Let's begin:Note: This section is under maintenance and will constantly be added to.The Great White:The Great White is classified as a Heavy Shark. No other Shark in the game rivals the strength and health pool of this badboy. That being said, what he makes up for in health and damage, he lacks in speed and stamina. When using this Shark, keep in mind you're gonna be slow. There's really no way around it. However, there a few things you can do to really throw the Divers a curve ball. The Great White's Special Ability is called Juggernaught. Using Juggernaught in general, you will take reduced damage for a brief amount of time. What really makes this Shark a beast is when Juggernaught is fully upgraded, you ignore all Nets and Slowdowns from the Divers! That's right, not even Nets can stop you. What works great with this are the Evolutions Ignore Pain, Adrenal Glands and Blood Rage. Recap:Pro's:Biggest health pool in the gameDoes a lot of damageJuggernaught!, Juggernaught!, Juggernaught!Con's:SlowNot a lot of StaminaLarge targetThe Tiger:The Tiger is classified as a Medium Shark. His natural color really benefits the player when playing on darker maps, such as Crude or Hillside. He's tough to see. In addition, he's also pretty fast. What really makes this Shark shine is his Special Ability Adaptive Hide. This makes the Tiger partially invisible, using the surrounding environment as a sort of cloak. While the Ability is active, you won't be revealed when next to Flares, Sonar Buoys or even attacking a Diver! Tagging rounds won't work either until your Ability wears off. You also have a 50% less chance of being targeted by a P.A.T. while your Ability is active. Useful if you're going up against sharpshootin' Divers. Good Evolutions to have when playing as this Shark are Blood Feast, Serrated Teeth and Razor Fins. Recap:Pro's:Good damageNatural color makes you harder to see on darker mapsAdaptive Hide works wondersCon's:Medium targetNot a lot of healthEasy to spot on lighter mapsThe Mako:The Mako is classified as a Light Shark. The Mako is the fastest Shark in the game, nigh impossible to hit when played by a seasoned veteran. He does average damage, so no worries there. However, his downfall is his health. If you are able to hit him, you'll find it doesn't take much to put him down. Bleed rounds are a Mako's worst nightmare, so watch out. The Mako takes practice and determination to master. But once learned, he's one of the deadliest Sharks around. His Special Ability is Mark Prey. Mark Prey highlights a random Diver and makes them glow. If the player kills the highlighted Diver within the time limit, you a rewarded extra Evolution points to spend upon your next death. The more you upgrade Mark Prey, the more Evolution points you're rewarded. Good Evolutions to have when playing as a Mako are Placoid Scales, Blood Feast, Ignore Pain, Serrated Teeth, Razor Fins and Adrenal Glands. Recap:Pro's:Fastest Shark in the gameSmall targetMark Prey can give you a lot of extra Evolution points if used effectivelyCon's:Small health poolBleed rounds will destroy youThe Hammerhead:The Hammerhead is classified as a Heavy Shark. The Hammerhead can really give you a tough time. I mean, really. When played right, they can 1-hit a full-health Diver against any Wall or Surface, so watch out! They have a lot of health; not as much as the Great White but close.A Hammerhead's Special Ability is Relentless Force. When active, this regenerates Stamina to the Hammerhead based on how hard they slam a Diver into a Surface or Wall. When fully upgraded, it also regens their health! They are really effective on close-quarters maps such as Galleon and Devil's Head. They're one true downfall is the Net Gun. Especially a Reinforced Net. There's no way around it. Useful Evolutions to have when playing this Shark are Ignore Pain, Blood Rage and Adrenal Glands. Recap:Pro's:Does a lot of damage against Walls/SurfacesGood health poolRelentless Force can allow you to just keep rackin' up them killsCon's:SlowLarge targetNet Gun makes them a complete jokeThe Thresher:The Thresher is classified as a Light Shark. My personal favorite, the Thresher can be a formidable adversary. It's long tail gives it a natural AoE (Area of Effect) attack that will severely punish Divers that like to bunch up together in a group. This makes them devasting in close-quarters. However, there comes a price. The Thresher is very weak, both in terms of health and damage output. Bleed rounds will make you have very a bad day. You have to fully utilize their tail and Ability to put the fear of God into those stupid Divers. The Thresher's Special Ability is Tail Lash. When activated, it instantly does damage to the Diver you're holding (if any) and all the Divers within a small vicinity (about the same radius as a Sea Mine). When fully upgraded, it will also destroy electronics and deployables instantly (i.e.: Shark Shields, P.A.T.'s, Sonar Buoys). You can also break down Walls and temporarily disable Diver's flashlights to throw them into complete darkness for a hasty escape. Useful! Good Evoultions to have when playing this Shark include Blood Feast, Ignore Pain, Blood Rage, Adrenal Glands and Razor Fins. Recap:Pro's:FastAoE Special Ability that can literally turn the tide of a gameExtremely small target and hard to hitCon's:Little to no health poolBleed rounds = broken keyboard/mouseLong tail can cause problems sometimes if you're trying to hideThe Bull:The Bull Shark is classified as a Medium Shark. The Bull Shark is the newest addition to the Shark team but don't let that fool you. This guy is an absolute powerhouse. His health is a little above average (that's always good!) and his damage output ain't bad. But what really makes this Shark an annoyance to go up against is his Special Ability Enrage. Enrage temporarily gives the Bull Shark a up to 200% Health and Stamina boost and a 166% damage boost! Holy Jesus! This is given proportionally upon activating your Ability, depending entirely upon how much 'Rage' has been built up. To build up Rage, simply be in close proximity to the Diver's until the cirlce at the bottom of your screen fills up all the way. Easy. Useful Evolutions to have when playing as a Bull Shark are Blood Feast, Vitalized Frenzy, Ignore Pain, Blood Rage and Adrenal Glands. Recap:Pro's:Enrage makes you damn near invincible for a short timeGood health poolGood damageCon's:Medium targetNet gun can put a stop to them

Was hoping for more of a storyline single player mode. The current gameplay but with story for shark and diver. What your goal is and variables changing over time. This seems like a good start but it can be taken to the next level otherwise its just a repetative deathmatch game.
